1930 - 2016 Obituary Condolences
NILES LEROY DUGAN Sr. Obituary
Niles passed away September 20, 2016 with his family by his side. He was born in Shreveport, Louisiana on July 1, 1930 to Lucille and Elmer Dugan. Dad was an only child. He is preceded in death by his wife Barbara and his parents.
Dad and Mom met in the mid 1940's. Dad graduated from Ventura High School in 1948 and went to work for Tidewater Oil Company at the age of 18. Dad and Mom married April 2, 1950 and began their family in Ventura California. In 1956 Dad was transferred to Bakersfield's Kern River Fields and he and Mom started a new adventure with their 3 children. They were very involved in their children's activities. Dad coached his sons' baseball teams. He attended every sporting event and dance recital. He was a Cub Scout Leader. When the grandchildren came along, Dad and Mom also were going to baseball and soccer games, swim meets, and dance recitals. Dad retired from Texaco's Midway-Taft District in 1988.
Dad was a member of the Bakersfield Elks #266 for many years. He and Mom bought an RV and joined the Roving Elks. They enjoyed the monthly campouts with the Rovers and made many friends. Dad was also a member of SIRS and volunteered for Team Penning events. Dad and Mom traveled this beautiful country of ours visiting all 50 states and Canada. They even took a trip to Europe. Every summer they would take the RV to Avila with their grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
Dad was loved and admired by everyone who knew him. We will miss our Dad and our Poppy. We all know he is in his happy place and dancing once again with the love of his life.
Dad is survived by his Birthday Buddies, son-in-law Blake Carter and grandson Hunter Moore. He is also survived by his daughter Bobbee Carter, sons Chip Dugan (Wanda), Mark Dugan (Debbie), grandchildren Chad Moore, Amber (Michael) Mancini, Karah Dugan Berry, Kevin Dugan and Whitney Carter, great-grandchildren Ashley (Dallas) Stieber, Colby Berry, Mckenzie Dugan, Austin Dugan, Carlie Berry, and Madison Reno, great-great-grandson Noah Stieber, cousin Rosetta Fisher and Rex, sister-in-law Roberta Meade and brother-in-law Dale Seeley and Karen.
A special thanks to all of the Palliative Care Staff including Jana and Jennifer for their amazing care and comfort during Dad's last few months.
