Norma Jayne Ferris April 13, 1916 - April 27, 2012 Norma Jayne Ferris, beloved mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother, went to be with our Lord Jesus Christ on Friday, April 27, 2012. Norma was born on April 13, 1916, in Springfield, Illinois. She was the only child of Elmer and Norma Bumgardner. The Bumgardners moved to Bakersfield in the year 1916, where she lived and spent her entire life. On Sept. 5, 1937, she married Lamar Ferris at First Presbyterian Church in Bakersfield. A few years later in November of 1948, she accepted Christ as her personal Savior; and along with Lamar, they became devout members of Full Gospel Tabernacle, which is now Bakersfield's First Assembly of God Church. Norma found joy in her Christian faith and in the relationships she shared with her family and friends. Her many involvements with her church included Tabitha Club, Camera Club, and teaching Sunday school. Among other interests, Norma was an avid golfer, water-skier, and enjoyed painting. Her homemade pies were legendary, and followed every evening supper, much to the delight of her family. She and Lamar also enjoyed many years of traveling together as they pulled their trailer across the country and into Canada. Norma spent her last few years living at Rosewood Retirement Center. Her nurturing spirit and love were best exemplified by her devotion and unconditional love to God, her husband, and her family. We are eternally grateful to God for giving us such a loving mother. We will miss her. Norma was preceded in death by Lamar, her husband of 62 years. She leaves four children, all of Bakersfield, Richard, wife Cathy; Doug, wife Cheryl; Sally, husband Frank Boado; and David, wife Kimberly. Norma is also survived by 9 grandchildren, Lisa Ballard, Shari Brough, Jeff Ferris, Brad Ferris, Gina Sedenko, Brent Boado, Tracy Camarano, Scott Ferris, and Steven Ferris. She also leaves 14 great-grandchildren. Visitation will be held on Thursday, May 3, 2012, from 4:00 to 7:00 p.m. at Greenlawn Southwest Memorial Park, 2739 Panama Lane. A memorial service for Norma will also be held on Saturday, May 5, 2012, 10:30 a.m. at Bakersfield's First Assembly of God Church, 4901 California Ave. For condolences please go to www.greenlawnmortuaryandcemetery.com.
