Oleta Johnson Cooper Obituary
Oleta Johnson Cooper 1932-2012 Oleta Johnson was born on March 26, 1932 in Cottonwood, New Mexico to Isaac P. and Nora A. Johnson. She and her twin sister were the youngest of thirteen children raised on the Johnson Family Farm in Lake Arthur, New Mexico. She attended elementary school in Lake Arthur and graduated high school in Artesia, New Mexico in 1950. She met Hubert B. Cooper and married in 1952. They were married 51 years before H.B. passed in 2003. She was preceded in death by her father and mother, four brothers and three sisters, one of which was her twin sister earlier this year. She is survived by five sisters, one brother, her son Rick, and two grandsons Garrett and Kyle. Oleta was devoted to family, church and community service. As a housewife she created a comfortable home providing support and encouragement to her family. She was devoted to the formation and building of the Shafter United Methodist Church and worked with her fellow church members for many years to provide local fellowship opportunities for the community. In 1982 she joined the Kern Medical Center Auxiliary and contributed over 12,500 hours of volunteer service during her 30 years of participation in the operation of the snack bar at KMC. Oleta never took herself too serious, but her spirit and desire to make her life, her family's lives and lives within the community better were very serious. She was great daughter, sister, wife, mother, mother-in-law, aunt, grandmother and friend. We will all miss her. Oleta battled cancer for over 20 years of her life. She never complained and never let it slow her down. She finally succumbed and died peacefully on Tuesday, November 27, 2012. On the Sunday before her passing she stated she was prepared to go to God and her eternal home. Celebration of life and memorial service will be held at the United Methodist Church in Wasco at 11am. A reception hosted by the United Methodist Women will follow the service. Please sign Oleta's guestbook at GoldenValleyMemorialCare.com Peters/Wasco www.bakersfield.com/obits
