Olletta "Leta" Mae Oliver, age 92, passed away peacefully at home on Friday April 10, 2015. Born January 16, 1923 in Meeker, Colorado to Harold and Ethel Hulsey. Leta was the oldest of 3 children: JD Hulsey and Mary Bartel, who have preceded her in death.
Leta met her husband, Floyd "Bud" Oliver of 53 years, while waitressing in Tehachapi, California. He worked at Monolith and came to see her every day. They married June 13, 1950 in Las Vegas, NV. They opened The Bear Mountain Cafe located in Hart Flat.
Leta was very involved in the local VFW post 1468. She was known as the "Cookie Lady". Every Friday she would take homemade cookies to "the boys" at the VA Clinic. She also dedicated countless hours sewing lap-blankets and neck pillows for the Veteran's Hospital in Fresno.
She worked as a Dispensing Optician at Kern Optical and American Optical for 30 years.
She loved traveling, gambling, John Wayne, collecting owls, and spending time with her family.
Survivors include: Children; Virginia "Polly" Collier, Ron Oliver, Don Atkinson, Diane Stone and Rheanna Hilton. 13 grandchildren, 14 great-grandchildren and 7 great, great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her husband Floyd "Bud", son Roger Oliver, and an infant daughter.
Visitation will be April 16, 2015 at Hillcrest Memorial Park and Mortuary from 4:00PM - 8:00PM,Services for Leta will be held at Hillcrest Memorial Chapel on April 17, 2015 at 1:30PM
