Olympia Elsie Torigiani Obituary
Olympia Elsie Torigiani was born on November 17, 1921, to Alfredo and Irma Pierucci in Bakersfield, CA, and passed away peacefully on December 16th, at the age of 93. She was raised in Buttonwillow, and attended Elk Hills Elementary School (Tupman, CA) and Kern County Union High School (BHS). On May 3, 1941, Olympia married the love of her life, Gino Torigiani (Nonno), and she cared for him with all her heart until his passing on November 24, 2001. For many decades, Olympia was a regular golfer, playing most Sundays at Stockdale Country Club usually with her husband, Gino, and their close friends, Roy and Bruna Belluomini. Olympia was a master at crochet. She crocheted for as long as anyone can remember, making hundreds of blankets for family, friends and charities over the years.
Olympia continued to crochet and care for herself in her own home until her death. She was a great cook and always planned her meals, like all aspects of her life, well in advance. She loved to stay home watching television next to a warm fire; she was not particularly fond of no-burn days. Olympia treasured the time she spent with all her family including her sons, Michael and Ronald (Ronnie), daughter-in-laws, Sandra (Sandy) and Linda, and all of her grandchildren and great-grandchildren, whom she always graciously thanked when they took time to call or visit. Olympia's grandchildren affectionately referred to her as "Nonni." She was a quiet person, but had a quick wit, sharp mind and strong values. She was a classy dresser, and lived life with the highest degree of honesty and integrity. Olympia's family is extremely grateful to have had their lives blessed and enriched beyond measure for so, so many years by an angel, who is now in Heaven with God.
Olympia is predeceased by her husband, Gino Torigiani, brother, Paul Pierucci, and sister, Yolanda Betti.
Olympia is survived by her son Michael and his wife Sandra, and her son Ronald and his wife Linda; by her grandchildren, Steven Torigiani (wife, Sarah), Jim Torigiani (wife, Michelle), Ryan Torigiani (wife, Lainie), Bree Bogacki (husband, Ivan) and Scott Torigiani (wife, Amanda); and by her great-grandchildren, Tyler, Mia and Santino Torigiani, Madisen and Piper Torigiani, and Siena and Giania Bogacki.
The family wishes to give special thanks to Scott Tatum, and his wife Pam and his mother Beverly, for their attention to Nonni over the years, from picking up her paper to having dinner with her, and to all the nice people at San Joaquin Hospital who took excellent care of Nonni as well as the family.
Pallbearers are: Steven, Ryan, Jim, and Scott Torigiani, Ivan Bogacki, and Roy Pierucci.
A funeral mass will be held on Monday, December 22nd at 12:00 p.m. at St. Francis Parish, 900 H Street, Bakersfield. In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations be to the Grossman Burn Center at San Joaquin Hospital, with checks made to: SJCH Foundation, 2615 Chester Ave., Bakersfield, CA 93301.
