Opal Faye Evans Spitzer August 2, 1930 - July 14, 2012 Opal Spitzer, age 81, passed away peacefully in San Luis Obispo on July 14, 2012 with her loving family by her side. She was born in Shafter, California on August 2, 1930 to Elmer and Beulah Evans. She was the younger sister of Omer and Murray Evans. She was preceded in death by her parents and her two brothers. Opal grew up in Shafter graduating from Shafter High School in 1948. She married Herbert Spitzer on May 28, 1949 where they lived and raised their family in Shafter and McFarland. Her early years were spent raising three boys on the family farm. She is survived by her three sons and their wives all of Bakersfield, Ryan and Pam, Ross and Patti and Brent and Kristi. She is also survived by her seven grandchildren, Drennan, Jacob and wife Cheri, John, Scott, Callie, Jason and Michelle, and two great grandchildren, Emma and Lauren. Opal spent the later years of her life at her beach house in Cayucos where she enjoyed visits from her family, especially her grandchildren and great granddaughters who shared her love of the beach. One of her favorite pastimes was watching the bird activity on the ocean. She was a wonderful cook, a gracious hostess, an excellent bridge player and an avid reader. She loved to watch televised sports, read her books from the Cayucos library, read her newspapers everyday and do the crossword puzzles. She will be dearly missed.
