Patricia Dawn Akines passed away December 8 following a stroke. She was 68 years old. Known by all as "Pattee" she has been desperately missed. Born in Bakersfield to Ken and Barbara Farnsworth, Pattee attended Garces High School and Bakersfield College. She raised 3 children while working in the medical-surgical field, initially at Bakersfield Memorial Hospital, and ultimately with the Millennium Surgical Center. Pattee volunteered her experience to HELPS International, traveling to Guatemala several times on medical relief missions. Having her sister Nancy by her side made these trips all the more treasured. Pattee's love for travel took her over the years to locations across the US and beyond. She cherished the Maui vacation last summer with her siblings. Pattee retired in 2014 and was thrilled to be able to indulge her desire to live close to her beloved sister on the coast. When they weren't together, they were on the phone. Her constant canine companion, Bella, completed the idyll. In Grover Beach Pattee was close enough to her son Marc for frequent dinners together, and daughter Natasha visited whenever granddaughter Hailee needed to see her Nona.
Pattee is survived by her children: Marc Combs of San Luis Obispo, Natasha Adney of Bakersfield, and Heather Akines of Santa Barbara. She is also survived by granddaughters Kelsea and Hailee. And she is survived by her siblings: Michael (and Carmel) Farnsworth of Valencia, Nancy (and John) McKain of Arroyo Grande, and John (and Lisa) Farnsworth of Bakersfield, and numerous nieces and nephews.
Pattee was a best friend, caregiver, favorite aunt, doting daughter, loving sister, amazing Nona, and the "THE Best Mom." The world is a little less bright without her here.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests that any donations be made to an animal rescue shelter, or bring non-perishable food to the service.
Memorial services will be held at 11 AM Friday, March 18 at Calvary Chapel in Arroyo Grande with a reception to follow.
