1947 - 2016 Obituary Condolences
Patrick Andrew Taylor, 68, passed peacefully at home on Friday, September 2nd after an extended illness. Patrick was a long time resident of Santa Rosa and served for over 28 years as a counselor at Santa Rosa Middle School, guiding and mentoring thousands of students, many of whom remained life-long friends. He was born October 18, 1947, in Delano, where he grew up on a ranch in the hot and arid grape-growing region of Southern California and this upbringing shaped his life. He was educated in art history at SF State and then headed to the East Coast to become a teacher at Northfield Mount Herman, a private school. Upon relocating to Sonoma County, he earned his MA in school counseling from Sonoma State and began his career at the Sonoma County Office of Education.
He was preceded in death by his parents Mark and Frances, and by his beloved sister Paula. He is survived by his sister Ronda (Livio) Mazzei of Bakersfield, CA, and two nephews Craig Todd (Allyson Zenimura) of Fresno, CA and Chris Todd of Clovis, CA, along with many friends throughout the world.
Patrick loved so many things: bowties & white suits, the SF ballet, Grace Cathedral and all his compadres there, Broadway plays, the Warriors and Steph Curry. He was moved both by Beethoven and the Beatles and traveling to Bali was the highlight of his world travels.
Patrick was a kind and charming man of sophistication and elegance. He was a friend to everyone he met and his heart was teeming with love for the world and all its creatures. He was ever optimistic and even in the face of death he was accepting and full of grace. We all will miss him enormously.
We are especially grateful to Dr. Nicolaj Andersen and the staff at Kaiser Hospital for the care they gave Patrick throughout his illness, Sutter Hospice who stood by at the end Ceres Project for providing nutritious food, and most especially, Jacob St. James who cared for him throughout and was with him at the end helping him to pass peacefully to the other side
