Paul Wagner Obituary

Paul Gerald Wagner 1935 - 2010 Paul Wagner was ushered into eternal life on October 31, 2010, after a long and valiant struggle with pancreatic cancer that lasted nearly five years. The youngest of four children, he was born in Wheeling, WV, on May 10, 1935, to Margaret and Louis Wagner. Paul earned a B.A. degree from Ohio Wesleyan University and an M.A. from Indiana University with a major in Geology. An ROTC graduate, he served as a 2nd and 1st Lieutenant in the U.S. Air Force and was stationed at both Patrick AFB, FL, and Clark AFB, the Philippines. Following military duty and graduate school, Paul worked in the oil industry as a geologist for several years. He entered the real estate field in 1971, became a broker, owned his own company, and in recent years was the ombudsman for the Bakersfield Association of Realtors. Paul was an active member of St. Paul's Anglican Parish and acted as head usher for close to three decades. His special interests included reading, a love of history, especially Civil War and World War II, railroad field trips, hiking, traveling, and working around the house and yard. Playing with his three grandsons was a most favorite activity. He was extremely supportive of his family, always putting our needs before his own. Paul wore many hats in life, but was always a gentleman first. He taught his children well, ensuring their ability to support themselves by demonstrating an excellent work ethic. His thoughtful, courteous, generous and loving nature will be desperately missed, but we rejoice that he is no longer suffering, and that he has found peace in Heaven. Paul is preceded in death by his parents and brothers William and John. He is survived by his loving wife of 51 years, Sue; son, Paul A., and daughter- in-law Suzanne; daughters, Wendy Force and Jeanie DeDios and son- in-law Roger DeDios; beloved grandsons, Kirk Force, Roman DeDios and Joshua Wagner; sister, Jean Eden and husband Fred; sisters-in-law, Gerry and Joan Wagner; and six nephews. A memorial service will be held on Saturday, November 6, 2010, at 3 p.m., at St. Paul's Anglican Parish, corner of 17th and B streets. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Paul's memory to the Anglican Foundation of Kern County, 4208 Rosedale Hwy., #302, Box 161, Bakersfield, CA 93308. www.bakersfield.com/obits

It's been over a decade since my father's passing. My memories of his ceaseless hard work and limitless giving still amazes me to this day. Many have benefited from his time on this earth and he is sorely missed.

Pops, I love you so very dearly. I couldn't have asked for a more loving, generous, and supportive Dad. You gave your all for me time and time again. And then later would ask if I needed more, apologizing for not giving enough.

Your love shined through all the tragedies of life. Crohn's disease, divorce, breast cancer, job loss, all things big and small. You were always there.

Father I want now to come with you, to be close, and tell you that I love you once more.

I always appreciated Paul's work ethic and endless knowledge about real estate. He always seemed to know a lot more than he ever said, letting you realize the answer he already knew. My prayers are with you and your family, the real estate industry has lost a corner stone.
