Paul Terry Reyes Obituary
A rosary and visitation will be held at Hillcrest Memorial Park and Mortuary (9101 Kern Canyon Rd) on Sunday, March 8, 2015 at 5pm. Mass will be held at St. Joseph (1515 Baker Street) on Monday, March 9, 2015. Internment will follow at Hillcrest Memorial Park and Mortuary.
Paul was born and raised in Bakersfield, CA. He was an athlete in High School and College. He played football and was on the swim team at East Bakersfield High School and played water polo at Bakersfield City College. In 1970, he earned his Associates of Arts Degree in Engineering and fulfilled his career working as an engineer for the County of Kern until his retirement in 2009.
Paul was a well-known musician in our community. At the young age of 18, he played trumpet with the musical group "The Latineers". Shortly after, he founded his own 12-member band called "Los Reyes". After much success, he co-founded the "VO5 Combo" and eventually played with "Mariachi San Clemente" and "Mariachi Olmos".
In his latter years, Paul enjoyed teaching his grandchildren how to swim, fishing with his family, watching his family dance folklorico, taking trips to the beach, cooking for special occasions and listening to his favorite music.
Paul is preceded in death by his mother Sara Gallegos and father Hipolito Escalante Reyes. Celebrating Paul's memory is his sister, Alicia Rosales; his ex-wife Myrna Garza; his children Cynthia Reyes, Paul Reyes, Raul Reyes, and Roxana Reyes; his grandchildren; best friend and partner Angela Mireles and her granddaughter Monique Dominguez.
We will remember the passion Paul had for life exampled by his witty humor, the love he had for music, and his ability to live life to the fullest.
