Peter was born in Vinton, Iowa, to Leland and Sally Lewis. He was predeceased by his parents, his first wife Mary Black Lewis, his brother John Christopher Lewis, sister Susan Lewis Wu and her husband James Jessie, stepson Brian Saunders, grandson Matthew Lewis, his uncle and aunt Bob and Janet Lewis and best of many friends, Kenneth Lisenbee.
His family moved to Bakersfield in 1943. He graduated from East Bakersfield High in 1958 and then went on to Menlo JC for a year before attending the University of North Dakota, where his father attended. From there, he enrolled in Hastings College of Law, graduating with a JD in 1965.
He married Mary Black while attending Hastings, and was blessed with a daughter, Jennifer and a son, Stephen.
As an attorney he started as a deputy district attorney. He later joined the firm of Bradley, Wagy, Bunker, Hislop, Gibbons & Leddy. In 1972 he became a partner in Wagy, Bunker, Hislop & Lewis.
He was a member of the Kern County Bar Association, twice serving as president. He was on the board of the Henrietta Weill Child Guidance Clinic, served on the Judicial Nominee Evaluation Committee 1986 - 1988 and served as a member of the State Bar of California Executive Committee 1986 - 1989. Peter retired in 1990.
Peter met Linda Brown Saunders in 1990 and they married in 1994. Peter was a very special person who loved traveling, golf, dominos, cards and red wine with his many friends and especially his wife Linda.
Peter is survived by his wife Linda, daughter Jennifer, son Stephen, stepson Steven Saunders, aunt and uncle Jack & Trixie Brown, and beloved grandchildren and nieces.
Services will be held Friday, October 7th-1:30p at Hillcrest Memorial Park & Funeral home. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the .
