1950 - 2016 Obituary Condolences

Peter Salazar Jr. passed away suddenly due to illness on July 2nd 2016 in Bakersfield, CA. Peter was born August 8th 1950 in Bakersfield, CA to Peter Salazar Sr. and Josephine Flores. He attended Garces High School and graduated in 1968. Shorty after graduation he enlisted in the Marine Corp and served from 1969-1971. After serving his country he returned to Bakersfield to work for the California Water Company from 1973 until his retirement in 2013. Peter was a proud member of the Utility Workers Union of America (UWUA) Local 205. He was passionate about serving in various positions in the Union, including President and Vice President, before being promoted to management in 2011. Some of his favorite things to do were; barbequing, gardening, trips to the coast, old John Wayne movies, blasting his favorite oldies and loved having his family together for special occasions and holidays. He had such an enormous presence in our lives with everything he did for us. It's going to be very difficult without him. His sense of humor and quick wit will be sorely missed. Until we see you again, our love for you will remain forever in our hearts. Peter is survived by his wife, Yvonne Escalera-Salazar, son Peter Salazar III, daughter-in-law Beth, son Patrick Salazar, daughter-in-law Emily, daughters Christina Chambers and Tanya Salazar, son Paul Salazar, daughter-in-law Sheryce, stepson Fredrick Macias and eleven grandchildren. Peter is also survived by his sister Michelle Carrisalez and brother-in-law Cruz, sister Valorie Lomas and brother-in-law Sal, mother-in-law Ramona Escalera, sisters-in-law Evelyn Morones and Roseann Fontaine, brothers-in-law Gilbert Chavez (Lorraine), Joe Escalera (Pat), Ernie Escalera (Cindy), Jerry Escalera (Becky), Ray Escalera (Bridget), Carl Escalera (Kim), numerous uncles, aunt, nephews, nieces, cousins, and friends. Peter was preceded in death by his mother and father, father-in-law Joe Escalera, Jr., brother-in-law Ron Escalera and brother-in-law Martin Morones.

Viewing will be held Sunday July 10th from 1pm-5pm at Basham Funeral Home located at 620 Oregon St. The funeral will take place Monday July 11th at Saint Joseph's Catholic Church located at 1515 Baker St. Rosary will begin at 11:30am followed by the celebration of Mass at 12pm. Final resting place will be Greenlawn Cemetery located at 3700 River Blvd.
