Philip Douglas Bryant October 20, 1932 - August 10, 2012 Our loved one has gone to be with the Lord. Philip Douglas Bryant, more affectionately known as Cubby, was born in Blythe, CA, to Alva and Irma Bryant. At the age of 4, the family moved to the Shafter area, where they continued their farming. After graduating from Bakersfield College, and before attending Cal Poly SLO, he married the love of his life, Jennie Elizabeth Riley, in 1952. Together they relocated to San Luis to continue his education. He then went to work as the bookkeeper for AH Bryant & Sons, the family's business. He bought out the family business in 1972. In December of '77, he reluctantly sold the business, but stayed in the farming industry as an Ag Appraiser for First Interstate Bank, where he worked until retirement. Philip was preceded in death by his parents, Alva and Irma; brothers, Audie and Chuck; sisters, Doris and Faye; and great-granddaughter, Arwen. He is survived by his cherished wife of 60 years, Jennie; his sons, Philip Dana, and Brent and wife, Ellen; daughters Julie Engel, and Lori Cates and husband, Alan; ten grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren. A graveside service will be held on Friday, August 17, 2012, at 10:00 a.m. at Shafter Cemetery, followed by a memorial service at 12:00 p.m. at Daybreak Baptist Church, 5446 Taft Hwy. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to Daybreak Baptist Church, In Memory of Phil Bryant. For condolences please visit www.greenlawnmortuaryandcemetery.com.
