Phyllis Joan Ebel Morgan Obituary
Phyllis was born in a hospital in Great Bend, Kansas. She spent her early life in Dighton, Kansas where her father owned a grocery store.
Her father's health problems necessitated a move to Longmont, Colorado where Phyllis graduated Longmont High School in 1949. By early 1953 Phyllis had moved to Long Beach, California, where she met the love of her life, Richard Morgan, who was in the US Navy. They were married on June 11, 1953. To this union they were blessed by having a son Douglas born in to their family on February 10, 1961 while the family was living in Oak Harbor, Washington. The family was further blessed with the birth of a second son, Geoffrey on July 27, 1962, while the family was living in San Diego, California.
The family then moved to Riverside, California, after Richard retired from the Navy and to be closer to Phyllis's mother.
Phyllis graduated with honors from both Riverside Community College with an Associate's Degree, followed by receiving her Bachelors from San Bernardino State College. Afterwards, the family moved to Bakersfield, and Phyllis continued her education at Cal State Bakersfield where she earned her teaching credential and Special Education certification. In May of 1985 Phyllis completed her work for a Master of Arts in Education and was awarded a Special Education Resource Specialist credential. Phyllis was employed with the Arvin Unified School District at the Haven Drive Campus until she retired in June of 2004.
Retirement was not kind to Phyllis. Alzheimer's raised its ugly head and removed all of the plans that she made for a happy retirement. Her last years were spent at Emeritus of Bakersfield and the family cannot express their appreciation enough to them for the wonderful care they showed our wife and mother.
Phyllis is survived by her loving husband Richard; son Douglas; son Geoffrey (daughter-in-law Amy); and grandchildren Rebecca, Caitlyn and Brittany.
In lieu of flowers the family asks that donation either be made to the Toys for Tots or The Sierra Club in her memory.
Services will be held at 11:00 a.m. Monday, March 17th at Mission Family Mortuary, 531 California Ave, Bakersfield, CA.
