R. Stetson Miller

1920 - 2010

R. Stetson Miller May 27, 1920 - September 12, 2010 Stetson was born on May 27, 1920, in Adrian, Michigan. He was the only child of Ralph and Emily Stetson Miller. When Stet was five years old, his family moved to Los Angeles, CA so that his father could establish his private medical practice in downtown LA. Dad attended Eagle Rock High School. While there, he enjoyed playing the drums with local bands, establishing close friendships and family ties that he maintained and cherished throughout his entire life, exploring the hills and city of Los Angeles and spending time with his family and friends on Balboa Island. He also enjoyed summer trips to Michigan working on family farms, strengthening his love of agriculture. Upon graduation Dad attended UC Davis and majored in dairy agriculture. When WWII broke out he proudly served in the U.S. Navy. After being discharged Dad returned to Los Angeles where he met the most wonderful Nita Chase and they were married on June 2, 1949. Shortly thereafter, Dad convinced Mom to move to Bakersfield where he soon started his own agency for Farmer Insurance which he ran for over 35 years. Prior to that, Dad was employed by a local dairy. Stet loved life. He was a terrific husband, father, grandfather, son and friend. He was generous with his time and was always willing to help. Dad was founder and active member of All Saints Anglican Church. He had a deep love for his church and the tremendous All Saints family. Stet was also a member of the Libertas-Security Masonic Lodge, and the Stetson Kindred. Additionally, Dad loved to travel around the country and throughout Europe and did so extensively. He particularly enjoyed RV trips with family and friends, in addition to spending time with family and friends, Dad loved home projects, Angels baseball and of course, wearing Stetson hats. Stet was preceded in death by his wife, Nita and parents, Dr. Ralph and Emily Miller. He is survived by daughters, Debbie Miller and Lori Hrovat, and blessed with granddaughter, Nicole Hrovat. The Miller family would like to thank Hoffmann Hospice (especially Ann, Kathy, Juanita, Desiree) for the wonderful care and the friends and staff at Carriage House Estates, especially Martha and Jack Griffith. Special thanks to great family friend, Pam Frasch. Memorial service will be held on Friday, September 17, 2010, at 1:00 p.m. at All Saints Anglican Church, 3200 Gosford Rd.
