RaMona Matilda Altmiller Obituary
RaMona Matilda Altmiller June 14, 1929 - November 3, 2012 Visitation from 5-9 p.m. with Rosary at 7 p.m. at Christ the King Catholic Church, on Thursday, November 8, 2012. Mass of Christian Burial will be held November 9, 2012, 10:30 a.m., at Our Lady of Guadalupe Catholic Church. Burial will follow at Greenlawn, River Blvd. Mona was a real southern belle- beautiful, gracious, loving and kind. Born in Jeanerette, Louisiana on June 14, 1929 to Clara and Gaston Dooley, she was the youngest of three children and the only girl. Her brothers were CP and Raylan. After WWII the family moved to Taft, California and Mona was employed at the Kern County Bank. In Taft, she met her future husband, Bill, a young man attending pharmacy school at the university of New Mexico in Albuquerque. On January 28, 1951 they were married and over the years had four children: William Paul, Raylene Therese, Thomas Anthony and Christopher Michael, all of whom attended St. Francis School and Garces. Mona was a wonderful cook, a skill learned from her Cajun mother. She was a loving, stay at-home Mom, devoted to her husband, children and grandchildren. Members of St. Francis Parish for 50 years, the family moved to East Bakersfield in 1999. Mona was quickly adopted by the priests and ladies of her new parish Our Lady of Guadalupe. She joined the OLG Church Financial Committee and was awarded Woman of the Year in 2009 for distinguished service. She was also a member of the Young Ladies Institute. These organizations allowed her to make lifelong friendships within the parish with the priests who were Oblates of St. Joseph: Fr. Chummar, Fr. Steve, Fr. Shaji, and Fr. Larry. She had a special devotion to Our Blessed Mother and felt a special attraction to the miracles of Guadalupe and Medjugorje. Mona's loves were her husband and family, the ocean, Mexico, Alaska, Key West, Niagara Falls, bird watching (especially hummingbirds) and chocolate sweets. Bill and Mona had 61 years of happy marriage and were blessed with 8 grandchildren: Will, Lucas, Robert, Liz, David, George, Eric and Diana. She also dearly loved: her nieces and nephews, Pat and Lloyd, Debbie, Gary and Ryan, Brian and Nancy; her son-in-law, David Rubio and especially her beloved brother and wife, Ray and Daffo Dooley. Thanks to the staff of Memorial Hospital ER and 5th floor West, Hoffmann Hospice, Mission Family Mortuary, Risto Rubio, Rita Cellura and Pat Ortiz. In lieu of flowers please donate in her name to the Our Lady of Guadalupe Building Fund. She will always be loved and never forgotten. www.bakersfield.com/obits
