Raylene Jean (Frater McKenna) Biren Obituary
Born May 22, 1952, in Pomona, California, as Raylene Jean Frater - Graduated to be with her Lord and Savior August 24, 2015, in Bakersfield, California.
Raylene was a 4th generation native of California, born in Pomona and raised in Santa Monica. She graduated from Santa Monica High School in 1970 and went on to Santa Monica College. She became a wife a mother in the '70s.
Her first husband, Pat McKenna of Newbury Park, is the father of her two sons, Shawn Patrick McKenna and Kevin Richard McKenna of Studio City and Simi Valley.
In 1987 she married her current husband, Nicholas Biren, at Calvary Community Church of Westlake Village. They lived in Westlake Village from 1987 until 2007, when they moved into one of the two spec homes they had built in the Bear Valley Springs area of Tehachapi. In 2008 they relocated to Bakersfield as Raylene was transitioned to an assisted living facility.
Raylene had been diagnosed with Alzheimer's disease in early 2005, but after several years, the diagnosis was changed to Pick's disease as symptoms that differentiate it from Alzheimer's began to surface. She eventually was overtaken by complications of that debilitating dementia.
Raylene is noted as having been a beautiful mother and a wonderful wife, always with a smile on her face and a heart for people. She was instrumental in setting up Care Ministries at Calvary Community Church in Westlake Village, and is still revered by many there for her love and compassion.
In 2009 she began attending Laurelglen Bible Church in Bakersfield with her husband, Nicholas, which remains their church home here in Kern County.
Raylene is survived by her husband, Nicholas; her two sons, Shawn and Kevin; and her sister, Darlene Kasch of the Pacific Palisades. She is dearly loved and will be sorely missed by everyone who knew her.
