Rebecca Hunter Obituary

Rebecca Thressia Hunter December 25, 1920 - October 19, 2010 Rebecca Thressia Patton Hunter was born in Dover, Oklahoma to The Reverend Walter and Gladys Patton. While still a small child, Rebecca's family moved to Paducah, KY where she lived until the early 1940's when she moved to Detroit, MI. In 1947 she joined Cleveland Hunter in holy matrimony and to this union there were no children. She was employed at Hutzel Hospital for 32 years. In the early 1990's the couple retired to Cleveland's hometown of Bakersfield, CA. Rebecca became a member of Mt. Zion Missionary Baptist Church under the leadership of Rev. H.T. Calhoun, Pastor. She served on the Kitchen Committee and was a member of the Women's Mission Union (WMU). Shortly after their move to Bakersfield, Cleveland passed on; however Rebecca chose to stay in California. Rebecca leaves to cherish her memory one cousin, four nieces, two grand nieces, one grand nephew, two great-grand nephews, and a host of other family and friends. The family greatly appreciates the care given by Rebecca's personal care givers, Catherine Villa and Lori Orona, and the kindness shown by the staff at Columbus Estates Retirement Center where Rebecca departed this life. Viewing will be Thursday, October 28 from 11 a.m. - 8 p.m.; Funeral Services on Friday, October 29 at 11 a.m., at Mt. Zion Missionary Baptist Church; Interment to follow at Union Cemetery. www.bakersfield.com/obits

Rebecca's family,
My mom is a resident of Columbus Estates. When visiting her, Rebecca was always sitting outside under the entry smiling, greeting, eating her orange and enjoying the day. She was special and will be missed

BABY, is what we called you, I always looked forward to the times that you came to visit Aunt Nellie and Uncle Aaron in D.C. We would sit and talk, No,No let me correct that, the Senoir folks would do all the talking. Things were different back then,so much has changed. Your labor is done, REST.
