Reynaldo Arvizu Obituary

Reynaldo "Rene" Arvizu 1932 - 2010 All is possible with God's Love Reynaldo "Rene" Arvizu, also known by many as "Chapo", was born in Azusa, CA on June 19, 1932 and passed away peacefully to be with our Lord on November 8, 2010 after successive battles with cancer. He was preceded in death by his parents, Arthur and Rachel Arvizu; his wife, Esther Cortez Arvizu; son, Reynaldo "Daddy Ray" Arvizu; daughter, Barbara Arvizu; and siblings, Art and Pete Arvizu and Sarah Velasco. He is survived by his brother, Dr. Steven F. Arvizu of Oxnard; his granddaughter, Augusta Arvizu of Grover Beach; great aunt, Jenny Ortiz of Lamont; sisters-in-law, Mary Frances Arvizu, Sandy Arvizu, Sophia Padilla, and Amelia Seng; brothers-in-law, John and Joe Cortez, and their respective spouses; numerous nephews and nieces and extended families. Rene was a barber in Arvin for several decades and also worked as a journeyman cement finisher. He was an Army Veteran having served for three years, including the front lines of Korea. He also was active for many years in the Loyal Order of the Moose, Chapter 416. He often led the feeding of large groups and weddings with deep pit BBQ and holiday celebrations with Christmas tamales. Even in the most challenging of circumstances he shared his gift of cutting humor and demonstrated God's love. The Lord brings us close in our times of pain, in our struggles with life's challenges, and in our dreams of more perfect days. The family would like to thank the doctors, nurses and staff at KMC, CBCC, Memorial Hospital, Health South and Mercy Hospital for their professional and loving care. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Alzheimer's Disease Association of Kern County, 5500 Olive Drive, Bldg. 1, Bakersfield, CA 93308, in his name. Rosary and Funeral Mass will be celebrated on Thursday, November, 11, at 1:00 p.m., at Christ the King Catholic Church, 1800 Bedford Way, Bakersfield, CA 93308. Graveside services to follow at Hillcrest Memorial Park, 9101 Kern Canyon Road. Reception to follow at Bakersfield's Elk Lodge, 1616 30th St., Bakersfield, CA 93301. www.bakersfield.com/obits

Condolenses to the family. I grew up in Arvin and knew Chapo, I was 4 yrs. younger and he lived down the street from my family.. He was like a "Fonzie kind of person". But he was nice to me whenever we met. My prayers are with him and his family. Earlene Arvizu. Ambrose Arvizu's daughter.
