Ricky Dewayne Smith Obituary
Ricky Dewayne Smith, (age 62) died surrounded by his immediate family, at his daughter's home in Bakersfield on September 7, 2015, after a short battle with cancer. He is preceded in death by his parents
Raymond and Alice Smith and survived by his daughter, Madeline (Eagle) Daniel; brother Randall (Janeen) Smith; sister Deborah (Edward) Gorski; nieces Suzanne and Noelle Guest; many aunts, uncles, and cousins; and his tiny dog Gidget, "the dancing scouring pad".
Rick was born in Bakersfield, California, on June 17, 1953. He
graduated from South High in 1971 and joined the U.S. Army in 1973.
He was honorably discharged in 1976 after serving in Germany. He
worked as a fabricator/ mechanic in Bakersfield for much of his adult life. He recently retired from the transportation department at
Rosewood Senior Living Center. He enjoyed deep-sea fishing with his
brother and was an avid collector of many "interesting items".
Family and friends are invited to a celebration of his life on Saturday, September 19, from 11:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m., at the home of his brother (2801 Elmwood Avenue, 93305). A graveside service for family only will follow on Monday at the Bakersfield National
Cemetery.
