Robert Duane Neufeld Obituary
Robert Duane Neufeld March 09, 1947 - June 01, 2013 Robert Duane Neufeld was born March 9, 1947 in Bakersfield, California to Ernest and Thelma Neufeld. Bob passed away peacefully in his sleep at his home surrounded by family on June 1, 2013. He was the middle of three children. Bob was preceded in death by his parents. He is survived by his wife, Pamela and his children, Nicolas and Justina. He is also survived by his sisters, Judith Hulse of Del Mar and Diane (Loren) Neufeld-Heck of Ocean View, Hawaii. He is also survived by niece, Christa Hulse (Rob Miller), mother-in-law, Shirley Clark, brother-in-law, John T Clark (Valeria and niece, Ivy), and numerous uncles, aunts, cousins, and friends. Bob resided his entire life in Wasco. He graduated from Wasco High School, where he was a champion butterfly swimmer. He attended college at Humboldt State, where he graduated with a BA in Fisheries and a Master in Biology. He taught biology for one year at College of the Redwoods. After teaching a year, he returned to the farm in Wasco and farmed with his Dad. When his dad retired, he began his farming career. In 1980, he married his childhood sweetheart, Pamela Clark, they resided on the farm. His dad was one of the first in Kern County to have a Choose and Cut Christmas Tree Farm and Bob continued the tradition until 1990. In the mid 80's, Bob was one of the few to plant pistachios in the area. By far, besides his family, "Captain Bob's" greatest love was fishing. Trips were taken to the California coast, Canada, Mexico, South America, Hawaii, Alaska, and Florida to fish. He pointed out that â-Š of the earth is covered by water, so he could always find a stream. He loved taking his children fishing on the Kern River and on the ocean at the central coast. His two favorite fishing trips for the last 30 years were Tuna Wars, a trip out of San Diego on the Excel to Mexican waters with the same group of fishermen, and a week trip on a houseboat at Lake Shasta with his good friends, Jamie, Matt, and Carl. He also loved to go on day trips to the Kern River to fish for trout. Lately, he had taken up surf fishing and clamming at Pismo. In the last few years, he had started to make fish prints and even had his own Japanese signature. The family would like to thank Dr. Vinh-Linh Nguyen, Tina, Misty, and Karen and also Around the Clock, and Hoffman Hospice for all their caring help. Graveside services will be held at 11:00am Saturday, June 22, at the Shafter Cemetery. There will be a luncheon/celebration at Grace Community Church afterwards in Wasco. Everyone is invited and encouraged to be casual and share a story of "Captain Bob". In lieu of flowers the family suggests donations in Bob's memory to the Wasco Community Scholarship Association, PO Box7, Wasco, CA 93280 or Wasco, , c/o Donna Ward, 740 Palm Ave., Wasco, CA 93280 Arrangements are under the direction of Peters Funeral Home, Wasco.
