Robert Leroy Nicks Obituary
Robert Leroy Nicks June 7, 1937 - September 20, 2013 Born June 7, 1937. Died at his home in Sequim Washington, September 20, 2013. He happily spent his last 12 years fishing with his sons and going crabbing with his very good friend Bill Petrie on the Olympic Peninsula in the beautiful Pacific Northwest. A graduate of BHS, he served in the US Army and attended college in Cerritos, California. He was employed by Rockwell International in the aerospace industry for 25 years working as an electrical engineer on the Apollo project which sent the first man to the moon. His later projects included the Space Shuttle and Global Positioning Satelite System (GPS) in Downey and Seal Beach California. He returned to the Bakersfield area for the summation of his career working as an instrumentation engineer for Chevron. He is survived by his wife of 56 years, Deloris Nicks; his sons Jeffrey Nicks of Port Angeles, Washington, Gregory Nicks of Bakersfield, California and Wesley Nicks of Nevada City, California; brother William Nicks of Woody, California; and sisters Doris Marlatt, Phyllis Byrd and Kay Kapler, all of Bakersfield, California. He is also survived by one granddaughter, Christina Nicks Davis and three great granddaughters Brittain Carroll, Gabrielle Nicks Davis and Alice Nicks Davis, all of Bakersfield, California. Robert (Bob) was unique in every way. Strong, Loyal, Dependable and innovative. We loved him and will miss him very much. He will always live in our hearts. No services. www.bakersfield.com/obits
