Known as Bob or Papa, Robert was born in Atlanta, Georgia on May 21, 1935. He passed away on May 18, 2016 in Bakersfield, California, surrounded by his loving family.
Bob and his wife of 60 years, Valeta, raised a family in Bakersfield where he worked for Electric Equipment Company and Southern Auto Supply. In 1982 Bob and Valeta moved to Shaver Lake, California, where he built their dream home, which continues to provide a welcome gathering place for family and friends. He worked for the Auberry School District before retiring.
Bob enjoyed camping, boating, skiing, fishing, snowmobiling and four wheeling all around the Shaver Lake area. He also spent many years in music, playing trumpet, banjo and singing in the local barbershop quartet, and acting in the Bakersfield community theater scene. Family and friends will always remember his classic papa-isms, things he would say that never failed to make us laugh, and the unique nicknames he coined for his grandchildren.
Bob is preceded in death by his wife Valeta and his grandson David Everet Plumb. He is survived by daughter Jeanine (Bob), daughter Robin (Pete), son Robert (Denise), sister Dianne (Larry), brother-in-law Skip (Jody), along with six grandchildren and their spouses, two great-grandchildren, and numerous nieces, nephews and friends.
A Celebration of Life Service will be held at 10 a.m. on Friday, July 8 at the Shaver Lake Chapel with a reception to follow at the Community Center. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that you make a donation to the Shaver Lake Volunteers at PO Box 483, Shaver Lake, Ca. 93664, or
