Services for Roxie will be held at Greater Harvest Christian Center on Saturday, October 11, 2014 at 10:00 a.m,. 5421 Aldrin Ct., Sr. Pastor Vernon Kemp. A Chapel Service (Wake) will be held at Jesse E. Cooley, Jr. Funeral Service on Friday, October 10, 2014 from 5:00 p.m. - 7:00 p.m.
Roxie attended Col Baker & Casa Loma Elem, Golden State Jr. High, and South High School. She received her Associates of Arts' Degree at Brooks College in Long Beach, CA; and her Bachelors of Science Degree at Saint Mary's College in Palo Alto, CA.
Her life before college was fun and filled with many talents and accomplishments, such as, glee club, choir, played the clarinet, Bakersfield Saints Track Team, winner of the local 'Black History Pageant'; South High School's Cheerleader, Rebelette, 1st African American Homecoming Queen, and Running Back for Powder Puff Football. She was also an entrepreneur of 'Glory Billing Services'.
Roxie's greatest joy was the Joy of The Lord. Knowing Jesus Christ as her Personal Savior was the highlight of her life. She knew exactly where her strength came from and she was not afraid to share it, which she exemplified by encouraging others. She loved Jesus with all of her heart, soul, and strength; which she exhibited by the love she displayed to others.
Roxie was preceded in death by her father, the late Dr. Roosevelt Kemp, Sr. She leaves to cherish her memories, her mother,
Maud Esther Kemp; (6) Brothers: Roosevelt Jr; Norris Sr; Paul (Diana); Patrick (Sharyl; Vernon (Vicki);and Kenneth (Danette.) (9) Sisters: Dorothy (Freddie) Thomas, Sr.; Gwyanda (Curtis) Gault; Vivian Johnson; Mary Kemp; Helen (Otto) Watson, Sr.; Priscilla (Charles) Young, Sr.; Hattie Kinsey; Carolyn (Thomas) Johnson; and Shaundra (Sidney)Maloy .
