Ruben Barrares Medrano Obituary
Ruben Barrares Medrano 1931-2013 Ruben Barrares Medrano, 81, passed away peacefully after declining health on January 14, 2013, just 9 days after his loving wife Emma passed away. They spent 62 years together and are now home with the Lord and spending eternity together as well. Ruben was born in Santa Paula to Marcario and Rosario Medrano (Guerra) on October 1, 1931. Ruben was a hard-working, witty, funny man, and was also very straight-forward and direct as any who knew Ruben can attest to. He was a carpenter for 10 years and then became a master concrete finisher for 40 years in Santa Paula. An excellent provider for his family, he will be deeply missed by his many friends and large family. Countless funny memories of Ruben with his friends and family in their Santa Paula garage will last a lifetime. He was truly a one-of-a kind! After living most of his life in Ventura County, he and his wife Emma moved to Bakersfield in 2004. They had six children: Ruben (Nuco) Medrano, Jr. (passed away in 1970), Danny Medrano (passed away in 1987), Eddie Medrano of Bakersfield (wife Jeanette), David Medrano of North St. Paul, Minnesota (wife Joni), Karen McConaghy of Bakersfield (husband Tim), and Debra Medrano Voshall (passed away in 2008). They leave behind 20 grandchildren, 34 great grandchildren, and 2 great-great grandchildren. Ruben is also survived by his siblings Oscar Medrano of Santa Paula, Ruth Borjas of Oxnard, Huera Cardoza of Saticoy, and Esther (Tellie) Garcia of Las Vegas. He was predeceased by his parents and step-father Nicolas (Nico) Guerra; his brothers Raymond Medrano, Henry Medrano, and Marcario (Nunie) Medrano; and his sister Margie Garcia. He leaves behind numerous nephews and nieces as well. Services for both Ruben and Emma will be held Saturday, January 19, at Bethany Ministries, 1200 Baker Street, Bakersfield. Viewing from 11:00 a.m. - 1:00 p.m. with celebration of life services starting at 1:00 p.m. Reception following. www.bakersfield.com/obits
