Ruby Lee Begley Obituary
Mother was born August 9, 1921 in Tupelo, Oklahoma. She is preceded in death by her parents and our Dad, Daniel "Buck" Begley.
In 1943 Mother along with her two young daughters and our grandmother rode the train from Oklahoma to Oakland, Ca while Daddy and our grandpa drove the car out. Daddy worked in the shipyards building ships for the military. In 1944 we moved to Shafter where we were closer to other family members. Daddy became a foreman on a ranch between Shafter and Bakersfield. As we settled into our lives on the ranch we welcomed our brother David into our family. It was there that we spent most of our growing up years through elementary school and high school. Mother was a very good cook and no one could beat her fried pies. It was there that we savor the memories of our childhood. We would lay on the floor in the evenings with our Daddy and listen to the stories on the radio while mother would make us a batch of sugar fudge with lots of walnuts. We would run around the fields, the same fields where we learned to drive in Daddy's pickup with a standard shift.
Following Dad's death Mother moved to Bakersfield where she lived independent for a number of years. We eventually put her in Glenwood Gardens where she lived for nine years. When she needed extra care we moved her to Emeritus Assisted Living where she lived for two years until she passed away on March 26, 2014.
She is survived by her family, Dolly Love and husband Robert, Paulette McBroom and husband Michael and David Begley and wife Peggy along with a host of grandchildren, great grandchildren and great, great grandchildren.
Services will be held Tuesday April 1 at 2:00 p.m. at Shafter Cemetery with Pastor Brandon Holthaus of Rock Harbor Church officiating.
