Ruth Harter Obituary

RUTH B. HARTER passed away at the age of 87. She was pre-deceased by her first husband Donald Y. Broida and is survived by her husband and best friend, Gerald W. Harter. Ruth was the Mother of Lisa (Chris) Sausser (Mission Viejo), Lawrence (Leticia) Broida (Ojai) and Greg (Rose) Broida (Bakersfield). Beloved Grandmother of Michael (LaZelle) Broida, Jonathan Broida and Jesse and Breeann Reyes; Great Grandmother of Nikolas Flores and & Leilani Broida.
Born in Fresno and raised in Bakersfield, Ruth was a dynamic, creative and compassionate woman. In Bakersfield, Ruth and her family owned and operated Bakersfield Glass Co., were charter members of Temple Beth El, active in Bakersfield Community Theater and in the foundation of Guild House, the fundraising arm of the Child Guidance Clinic. In her later life in Santa Barbara, Ruth was a Past National Commissioner and "Life Member" of the National Anti-Defamation League; Life member of Hadassah; Congregation B'nai B'rith; Museum of Art, UCSB Taubman Symposium; a supporter of most philanthropic needs of our community. Ruth served on the Santa Barbara County Grand Jury, and for many years as a member of the county Juvenile Justice/Delinquency Prevention Commission; she would do almost anything to save a child. Services were held Tuesday, March 4, 2014 at Congregation B'nai B'rith in Santa Barbara with the burial at Santa Barbara Cemetery.
