Sally Ann Claudino Obituary
Sally Ann was born to Harrison and Vera Grandel in Canton, OH, on October 29, 1928, and passed in her sleep on the morning of July 26, 2014, after a courageous battle with cancer. Sally moved to California as a teen and graduated from Kern County Union High (BHS) in 1946. She moved to Fresno, worked as a secretary, and met Denzil Keller at a Halloween party, marrying him in 1950. Sally adored the close-knit Keller family and their frequent potlucks, picnics, and any excuse get-togethers. Sally and Denzil welcomed three children and remained happily married until his untimely death with their youngest son, Scott, in a Morro Bay boating accident in 1971. She often said, "I wish you knew me before the accident."
Sally returned to work as a legal secretary for Tenneco. Years later she attended a Christmas party and saw Howard Claudino, a high school friend she hadn't seen since they signed each other's "Oracles." They married in 1982 and moved to Victorville, where she enjoyed a new life of dancing, traveling, theater, and fun! Sally was an exceptional housekeeper and cook, an avid reader, and she loved decorating for the holidays. Her sharp memory dating back to early childhood made her a fabulous storyteller.
Howard passed in February of this year, and Sally moved back to Bakersfield to be by family. In addition to her parents, two husbands, and son, Scott, Sally was predeceased by an aunt who was like a sister, Hermina Angelo. Sally is survived by a sister, Violet Niedlinger; daughter, Linda Smith (Rick) of Morro Bay; son, Eric Keller (Jenny); grandsons, Michael and Cameron Smith, Travis, Trevor, and Zach Keller; stepdaughter and grandson, Patty Taylor and Ben; four great-grandchildren; and many treasured family members and friends.
A graveside service will be held Tuesday, August 5, 2014, at 11:30 a.m. at Greenlawn Memorial Park, 3700 River Blvd. For condolences please visit www.greenlawnmortuaryandcemetery.com.
