Samuel Robert Deabenderfer was born in Oakland, CA, on Nov. 6, 1954, to Robert and Joan Deabenderfer. Samuel (Sam) was the third child of six siblings. He succumbed to cancer on February 24, 2016.
The family moved down to Oakdale, CA, to a small ranch. Sam and his brother enjoyed rural life, building forts and tree houses, feeding livestock and picking eggs, and hiking down to the river in the summertime.
Sam attended schools in Gustine and Oakdale, including Central Catholic High School in Modesto, CA. Afterwards, Sam entered the Air Force and was trained to work on airplanes. This later led to a short career for Continental Airlines. Sam also traveled extensively, nationwide, to work in energy plants.
He finally settled down in Riverbank, CA, and became qualified in property management and maintenance.
Sam is predeceased by his father, Judge Robert Deabenderfer, mother Joan Deabenderfer, brother David Deabenderfer, and sister Susan DeSilva. In addition, Sam is now able to join his baby daughter, Samantha Jean, who died in infancy.
Sam is survived by a sister, Marianne Williams (Dennis) of Visalia, CA, two brothers, Ronald and Richard Deabenderfer of Bakersfield, and a brother-in-law, Joseph DeSilva, of Stockton, CA. He is also survived by an uncle, Michael Deabenderfer of Oakdale, Ca, and numerous cousins, nephews, nieces, and great-nephews and great-nieces.
Funeral mass will be held Tuesday, April 5th, 10 a.m. at Christ the King Church, Bakersfield. Family-led rosary will precede at 9a.m.
