Samuel Robert Smith Obituary
Samuel Robert Smith March 17, 1933 - October 13, 2012 Samuel R. Smith passed away peacefully at home in Bakersfield and is now reunited with his beloved wife, Patricia Smith. Left to cherish his memory are his son, Kim Smith, his children Stephanie, Byron, Grant and families; his daughter, Shelly Fletcher, her husband, Tim Fletcher, their son Jeremy and family; beloved siblings, sisters, Margaret (Tiny), Carol June; and brother, Carl. He is also survived by Patricia's four children, two of which were like his own, Brenda and Jessie Luna, and Scott Beith; and numerous grandchildren. Sam was very proud to be a fourth generation Californian and an avid NASCAR fan. He worked for Hoppers, Inc. for over 35 years and was the last employee to close the gate for the final time. He was a concrete finisher extraordinaire and a lifetime member of the Kern County Sheriff's Reserve. Sam cherished his time as a leader with the Boy Scouts and especially enjoyed annual Colorado River backpack trip. He loved bird hunting with his brothers-in-law and nephews and never found a body of water where he couldn't catch a fish. Above all, Sam loved his wife of 20 years, Pat, and was so grateful to be included in her family. He was never happier than when surrounded by his loud, loving, and boisterous family and friends. Sam had a strong belief and faith in God and was a longtime member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints. A chapel service will be held on Monday, October 22, 2012, at 10:00 a.m. at Greenlawn Southwest Memorial Chapel, 2739 Panama Lane. For condolences please visit www.greenlawnmortuaryandcemetery.com.
