Sara Lowther Takii Obituary
Sara Lowther Takii peacefully passed away on Oct. 28 due to complications from cancer. She was born on April 30, 1945, to Orvill R. and Florence W. Lowther in Columbus, OH. She graduated from THE Ohio State University in 1963 with a degree in Physical Therapy. During her time at Ohio State, she lettered in synchronized swimming and in diving. As an OSU cheerleader, she rooted on her beloved Buckeyes. She moved to Long Beach, CA, where she met her future husband, Bruce Immanuel Takii. While in Long Beach, she earned her master's in Public Policy and Administration at Long Beach State University and entered private practice for physical therapy. Moving to Bakersfield, CA, in 1982, she and Bruce started South Coast Rehabilitation Associates and Western Rehabilitation Associates in Taft, CA. She served as the president of the Bakersfield Republican Women, Federated. She was also a past president of the California State Board of Physical Therapists. She earned her doctorate in Physical Therapy from Temple University. In Bakersfield, she was involved with Bakersfield Civic Light Opera, Bakersfield Melodrama, the musical trio The Lollipops, and the choir at The First United Methodist Church.
She is survived by her husband, Bruce; their sons, Chad and Adam Takii; her daughter, Tami Ortiz; her granddaughters, Alexandra and Magdalena Ortiz; her brother, Bill Lowther; and her cherished poodle, Scarlet.
A viewing will be held at Greenlawn Funeral Home Southwest, 2739 Panama Lane, Bakersfield, 4:00-8:00 p.m., Nov. 5. Services will be at First United Methodist Church, 4600 Stockdale Hwy., Bakersfield, on Nov. 6, 1:00 p.m. For condolences please visit:
