Sarah Rose Castro, a long-time resident of Bakersfield, Ca died Monday, March 21, 2016 in her Bakersfield home surrounded by family.
Born in 1923 in Phoenix, Az Sarah moved to Bakersfield and attended Bakersfield High School. She married in 1947 then moved to Santa Maria in 1962 where she worked at John Ingles, Knudsen and became a Pharmacist Assistant at Parson Bros. Drug Store. She later moved back to Bakersfield in 1989.
Sarah is survived by her husband of 68 years John F. Castro, 8 children; Phillip and Barbra Calvillo, Richard Calvillo, Rosemary and Phil Flores, Gloria Hanson, Johnny and Donna Castro, David Castro, Dixie and Jerry Cullivan and Ronnie Castro, 21 grandchildren and many more great grandchildren and great great grandchildren.
Sarah looked forward to her Jehovah's Witness bible studies and worship meetings after she was no longer able to go to the Kingdom Hall regularly.
Sarah had an open door policy at her home and everyone was always welcomed. She made sure nobody left her house hungry and would be offended if you refused a meal, so you'd better be prepared to pull up a chair and join the family during meal time. Just make sure you wash your hands first!
She always showed unconditional love and was the most protective and supportive wife, mom, grandma, and friend anyone could wish for. A woman who was not afraid of the truth and would let you know but also the most caring and big hearted person life could bring.
Sarah Rose Castro, November 6th, 1923 - March 21st, 2016 was preceded in death by her mother Mary A. Jurmilla, April 4th, 1905 - March 15, 2002, also known as Grandma Mia.
Services will held at the National Cemetary 30338 East Bear Mountain Blvd, Arvin, California, in Kern County. On March 28th at 10:30am
