Sharon June Kincaid Obituary
Sharon June Kincaid, of Bakersfield, died peacefully on September 4, 2015 surrounded by family. She was 79 years old.
Sharon is survived by her husband, William (Bill) Kincaid of Bakersfield; by her sister, Shirley Young of Bakersfield; by her five children, Cathy Kincaid of Los Osos, California, Jennifer (Stan) Roe of Clayton, California, Gerrie (Clarence) Hosey of Bakersfield, Vicky (Bill) Dykes of Spring, Texas, and Susan Kincaid of Glennville, California; her 13 grandchildren; her eight great-grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews.
Sharon was born on November 20, 1935 in Ventura, California to Walter and Nellie Branson. She graduated from East Bakersfield High School in 1953, and in 1955 married the love of her life, Bill Kincaid, who shared the next 60 years with her. Sharon pursued a sociology degree and teaching credential while raising five daughters, graduating Fresno State in 1968. Sharon taught for many years at Edison Elementary and Middle School, initially in the same classroom where her mother had taught before her. She was the hub and heart of our home, with five active children who constantly extended her job description; Blue Bird troop leader, Camp Fire Girls, church youth group leader (with husband, Bill), and more. Sharon was an active member of the Church of Religious Science and later attended First Presbyterian Church in Bakersfield.
Sharon loved to travel, loved to read, and loved to learn new things. When she and Bill "retired" they pursued a recreational lifestyle, over the years working multiple seasons at Yellowstone National Park. There they made many wonderful friends who shared in their adventures. In addition to international travels, Sharon also enjoyed several trips with Bill to the American southwest, following their keen interest in Native American culture. Extended family was warmly welcomed in all exploits whenever school and job schedules allowed. One of Sharon's favorite road trips was anything on Highway 395, especially if it included a stop at Whoa Nellie Deli.
A service celebrating Sharon's Life was held on September 9, 2015 at Doughty- Calhoun- O'Meara.
