Sharon Leota Beard Obituary
Sharon Leota Beard went home to be with the Lord on Monday, March 9, 2015 at San Joaquin Community Hospital in Bakersfield after a brief illness, she was 71. Sharon was born in Salina, Kansas on November 11, 1943 the first born child to Dr. Bruce and Betty Watson. When Sharon was two the family moved to California where her two brothers, Bruce II and then Daniel were born. Sharon enjoyed climbing palm trees with her brothers, going to Andre's Drive-In, working at Jolly Cone and singing with her high school choir. She graduated from South High School in 1961 and attended Bakersfield College before going to work as a switchboard operator and manager for then "Ma Bell". In 1964 she married Wayne Howard Anderson and a few years later they welcomed two daughters: Laura Joell and then Debora Michele to the family.
Sharon was a wonderful mother and cook and loved caring for her family. Her daughters were blessed to have a mother that was always there for them right after school, anxious to hear about their day. In 1992 Sharon married John Beard and together they traveled throughout the United States...recently completing a trip to the East Coast and were actively planning their next adventure this coming summer. She also always looked forward to getting together with her friends: known as the "Dirty Dozen" for holidays, birthdays, and Super Bowl parties or just to have lunch. Sharon loved to read and offered her love of reading to help struggling children at Planz Elementary School for several years. She also volunteered in the kitchen at Calvary Bible Church to cook for the S.A.Y. Yes Kids and Wednesday night bible study. In the last few years, she took up oil painting and her family and friends were the beneficiaries of several original paintings that showed Sharon's talent, flair and love for life. Her quick-witted sense of humor and genuine loving spirit will be sorely missed. Sharon is survived by her husband, John; daughters: Laura (Dan) Kershner, Debora (Mike) Ballard; granddaughter Joelle Ballard; mother, Betty Watson; brothers Bruce II and Daniel (Joni) Watson; four stepchildren, numerous nieces and nephews and a loving extended family.
A memorial service and celebration of Sharon's life is planned for Saturday, April 18, 2015 at Calvary Bible Church at 48 Manor Street in Bakersfield, California 93308 at 11AM. In lieu of flowers, donations in her name are encouraged to: S.A.Y. Yes Kids! (Save America's Youth) at Calvary Bible Church at 48 Manor Street, Bakersfield, CA 93308.
