Shirley Grace (Love) King, 93, of Bakersfield, CA, passed away peacefully in her home on April 8, 2016.
Shirley was born in Los Angeles, CA, on October 5, 1922. She attended Beverly Hills High School and Santa Monica Junior College, where she met the love of her life, Theodore "Ted" King. Shirley and Ted married on November 16, 1946. In 1949, the couple moved to Bakersfield, CA, and in 1950 welcomed their first and only child, Douglas King. Shirley had many dear friends and enjoyed hosting bar-b-ques, dinner parties, and card games. Shirley loved to travel, and together she and Ted traveled all over the US in their RV. Shirley and her family spent dozens of summers at Donner Lake and Lake Tahoe, creating wonderful, lasting memories. In addition to her love of family, friends, and travel, Shirley was an animal lover and adored her many dogs.
Shirley is survived by her daughter in law, Belinda King, granddaughter, Alison Dodder and husband, Duke, grandson, Brian King, and great grandchildren, Dominic Mavrakis, Grace Dodder, Evelyn Dodder, and Madelyn King. She is preceded in death by her husband of 62 years, Theodore King, and son, Douglas King.
The family wishes to extend their gratitude to Shirley and Ted's caregivers, Sally and Romey, and to their good friend and neighbor, Mike Stone.
