Shirley Frances "Fran" Hitchcock, loving wife, mother, Mema, Great Grandmother and friend, passed away on September 7, at the age of 77. Fran passed from complications related to her battle with Alzheimer's. Fran was born in Idabel, Oklahoma on October 22, 1936. She was the youngest child of Sam and Lois Morren.
Fran migrated with her parents, brothers and sister to Bakersfield during the dustbowl era, where she remained the majority of her life. Fran attended Beardsley Elementary and graduated from Kern Union High School (BHS) where she was the lead majorette. Fran and the majorette team marched with the Driller band in numerous events and parades making an appearance in the famous Rose Bowl Parade in Pasadena, California. On April 30, 1955 Fran and Don Hitchcock, along with lifelong friends, Bobbie and Chuck Holloway were married in a double ceremony.
Fran was a gifted makeup artist, working for Lancôme and Jafra Cosmetics for over thirty five years. Fran scripted, coordinated and managed retail makeup artistry, fashions shows, photography sessions and numerous weddings. Fran was honored with a number of industry awards for outstanding achievement in makeup artistry and sales goals. Fran loved making people look and feel their absolute best.
Fran was a devout Jehovah's Witness. She spent a great deal of time studying and sharing her faith. She took great joy in sharing her beliefs with others.
Fran was a social butterfly, she loved people. She loved soul music and dancing, however, her greatest joy was being a mother to her children and Mema to her grandchildren and great grandchildren. She loved spending time with her grandsons and countless precious memories were made with her granddaughter in Hawaii and Las Vegas.
Fran was preceded in death by her parents, Sam Morren and Lois Morren, her brothers Jimmy and Bobby and her sister Jo. Left to cherish her memory are her husband of almost sixty years, Don Hitchcock, her son Mark Hitchcock and wife Teresa, her daughter Lori Hicks and husband Steve, and son Kristopher Hitchcock. She is also survived by her grandsons Brandon Hitchcock, Ryan Hitchcock and wife Amanda, and Aaron Hitchcock as well as her granddaughter Jordan Hicks. Great grandsons, Blaize, Logan and Hayden Hitchcock. Also holding Fran in their hearts are her in-laws and numerous nieces and nephews and a host of special friends.
A very special thank you to Norna Burkhart, Fran's lifelong partner in crime for all the love, care and support she gave our mom.
Fran touched the lives of all that knew and loved her. She will be remembered always and loved forever. She will be deeply missed.
A memorial service to honor Fran will be held at the Kingdom Hall of Jehovah's Witnesses, 10800 Hageman Road, on October 4, 11:00 am. Following the memorial, a gathering will be held at KB Farms, 7301 Cottonwood Road. Food and beverages will be served.
Fran's favorite color was purple. Please wear something purple to the memorial to honor Fran.
