Shirley Joan Ashby Obituary
Shirley Joan Ashby 1935 - 2012 Shirley Ashby was born in Bakersfield on October 7, 1935. She passed away peacefully at home on May 20, 2012 after a long illness. Shirley's greatest joy in life was spoiling her grandchildren and great grandchildren. Shirley will be remembered as a loving wife, mother, grandmother, and great grandmother, as well as a loyal friend. Everyone will miss her wit, sense of humor, and her superb talent for hosting family gatherings. She took great pride in taking care of her lovely home, in which artwork she painted adorned the walls. Shirley loved nature, especially the birds in her beautiful garden. California poppies were her favorite wildflower and her wish was for her ashes, along with her late husband's, to be spread across a wild poppy field. Shirley was preceded in death by George, her husband of 57 years. She is survived by her children Debra, and Steven and his wife, Christina, her grandchildren Pamela and her husband Tony, Joshua, Nicholas, Nathan and Neil, and great-grandchildren Madison and Kendall, as well as many nieces and nephews. The family wishes to thank her physician, Dr. Ashraf and his caring staff and all of the dedicated staff at Optimal Hospice. Special thanks to her exceptionally attentive, loving, and patient round-the-clock caregiver, Gina, and her best friend Rosie for the care and comfort she provided to the very end. No services are planned. www.bakersfield.com/obits
