Stanley Curtis Byrom Obituary
Wow, What a Wonderful Life
At 15 years old, Dad ran away from home in Tehachapi to Nevada and became a real cowboy. His mother Hazel contacted the ranch and made sure he finished school while riding the range.
At 17 he joined the Navy and met our mother on the way to boot camp. They were married July 29th, 1957 and Mom went wherever Dad was stationed.
While Dad was flying P-2V's Mom, who looked like a young Elizabeth Taylor, had 4 boys in less than four years.
Then Dad got stationed in Hanoi to fight in the Vietnam War.
By the time he got home he was playing guitar and singing Merle, Buck, George, Ernest and Hank. Mom and the 4 boys went to sleep every night listening to him singing and practicing.
After the Navy we moved back to Bakersfield where Dad started working for Tosco-Petro for the next 20 years and became supervisor. He never stopped singing and passed his love of music to all 4 boys.
Then he bought A-1 Auto which is still family owned and eventually retired and they bought "Brae Bourne" on the River. He spent 18 years supervising the construction of the largest home in Kern County.
He threw legendary parties and massive weddings for his kids, grandkids and close friends.
He'd gone from 4 kids and a wife on Navy pay to spending the remainder of his life dedicated to his wife's dream since she was a little girl and they built it...........
His last day was the best-surrounded by his kids, grandkids and great grandkids, eating pizza and fresh oranges. Mom made him a tuna casserole and then gave him some caramel chocolate. His last words on Earth were "That was Wonderful" and that was his life........
In lieu of flowers, donations in Stanley's memory may be made to Mended Little Hearts of Bakersfield, 6217 Westlake Dr., Bakersfield, CA 93308.
