Sylvester Samuel "Sam" Gary Obituary
Sam was oldest son of Charles and Elsie Gary, Brother to Lorena Clevenger and Brother Edward Gary. He was born in St. Joseph, Missouri and passed into the heavenly father's arms on Christmas evening. He was also preceded in death to first wife of 42 years, Frances Jane Gary. Second wife, Helen Judith Wheeler-Gary was married to Dad for 17 years. He volunteered at Standard School alongside her in her class rooms for over 10 years and loved all the children she taught. It was such a blessing to him to be able to help any way he could.
He is survived by beloved wife of 5 years, Peggy Lee Gary and step children Patrick and Candace Jimenez and numerous grandchildren. He has 3 children, Elaine Petrini and husband Frank, Sylvia Horner and son Michael Anthoney Gary and wife Debbie Gary and granddaughter Candace and husband Tim McCaslin and 2 great grandchildren, Lucas and Wesley McCaslin, Susie and Chris Maretich. Pastor Harley Arden and Dorothy Boyles.
Survining brothers and sisters, Jenny Sink, Mamie Daly, Frank and Jan Gary, Jan Gary, wife of Ed Gary, John and Susan Gary and too many nieces and nephews to count.
Sam was well known in the oil drilling fields for over 60 years and he spent the last 45 years as master mechanic for Henry Leasing Company.
Sam and Peggy helped raise 4 young men grow to manhood, step grandchild Tyler Jimenez, Justin Alderman, Jonathan Attebary and Kaoru Molinar. The "Gary boys" sought guidance and understanding from Dad and he will be missed very much.
A visitation will be held Wednesday, January 7, 2015 at 10:00am until 1:00pm, at Mission Family Mortuary, 531 California ave. Sam will be laid to rest on Wednesday, January 7, 2015 at 2:00pm with full military honors at Bakersfield National Cemetery 30330 E Bear Mountain Blvd, Arvin, Ca 93203. Officiating will be Pastor Dan LeRoy of The Connection Assembly of God.
