Terry Ray "Lumpy" Foster Obituary
Terry went to be with our Lord and Savior Easter morning, Apr. 5, 2015, after a bravely fought battle with cancer. He was born Dec. 14, 1948 in St. Louis, MO to Melva and Ruben Foster. In 1955, Terry relocated to Bakersfield, CA to live with his uncle Daniel and aunt Inez (Foster) Swatzell, whom he fondly called "dad and mom". Terry graduated Bakersfield High School, class of 1967. He worked for Jack Davis (owner) Douglas Service before joining the U.S. Army in May, 1969. Terry considered Jack his mentor and shared a life-long friendship.. Terry served in Korea and had attained the rank of Sergeant upon receiving his Honorable Discharge in 1971. Terry was initiated into the International Union of Operating Engineers, Local 12, Mar. 1, 1975. Terry enjoyed many years as a heavy-duty crane operator and was well known for his impeccable work ethic and reliability. He retired in Apr., 2010.
Terry is predeceased by his mother and father, Melva and Ruben Foster, sister, Sharon Penrose and "mom and dad", Inez and Daniel Swatzell.Terry is survived by his cousins Debbie (Tom) Faulkner, Danna (David) Borrecco, Gary (Becky) Cook, Jim Womack, Barbara Hacker, Tracy (Belinda) Bright, Randy Bright, Judy Arnold, and best friend of 56 yrs. and brother by choice, Tim Felicetty and family, Lisa, Adam, Tony and Laura.
Terry enjoyed meeting people from all walks of life, had many friends and never knew a stranger. He especially cherished his long standing friendships with Mark Harper and son, Eddie, Jack and Karen Branch, and the many people who considered Terry more family than friend.Our heartfelt gratitude to Sharon Smith, Anne Hoisington and Art and Pat Gray for your generous care, love and support.
A special thank you to all the dedicated caregivers at Wilshire Hospice, Mission View Health Center, SLO, CA. Your commitment and compassion will never be forgotten.
