Thelma Stanton Obituary

Thelma Lois Steakley Stanton 1919 - 2010 Thelma Lois Steakley Stanton was born February 23, 1919 and went home to be with her Lord on September 21, 2010. Graveside services for Thelma Stanton will be held on Friday, Sept. 24, 2010, 10:00 a.m., at Hillcrest Cemetery. Thelma was born in Morrilton, Arkansas to William Albert and Minnie Zora Steakley. Thelma and her family moved to Bakersfield, CA during the Dustbowl Era due to her father accepting a position within the oil industry at Mohawk Refinery. Thelma graduated from Kern Union High School in 1939. Thelma pursued her passion for children, when she opened a in-home daycare center and went on to raise many children throughout Kern County for over 33 years. Thelma is preceded in death by her parents, Minnie and William; her sister, Martha Furman; and her son, William. Thelma is survived by her daughter, Carol Ann Bumerts and husband John; her son, David R. Stanton; nephew, Charles Furman and wife Tamara; 4 grandchildren, Lynn Bumerts, Carrie Lois Bumerts Maglieri and husband Peter, Karl Stanton, and Tiffany Stanton Swanson and husband James; and 2 great grandchildren, Peter John Maglieri III and Marcus Swanson. The family finds great comfort knowing that Thelma is up in Heaven rocking all the baby angels. In lieu of flowers the family request that you please make a donation to a charity of your choice. I am sorry to hear of your Mother's passing. I am praying that you remain healthy, resolved to do God's will, and enjoy the pleasant memories of your time together despite these trying times. The way I see it, the body is temporary, but the spirit is always with us. Please let me know if I can be of any help to you in the coming months. All my best to you Dave.
