Thomas Francis Gilligan August 30, 1929 - January 3, 2013 Services for Thomas Francis Gilligan will be held at Greenlawn Southwest. Thomas was born on August 30, 1929 in San Francisco, California and passed away on during the morning hour of January 3, 2013 in Bakersfield, California at the age of 83. Thomas is survived by his wife Neva of 61 years, son Thomas Gilligan, Ph.D and daughter-in-law Christie Skinner-Gilligan of Austin, Texas, daughter Katherine Berryman and son-in-law Frankie Berryman of Moore, Oklahoma, son John Gilligan and daughter-in-law Kathleen Gilligan of Glen Ellyn, IL, daughter Cynthia Armstrong and son-in-law Grant Armstrong of Bakersfield, California, sister Bernice Klumb and brother-in-law Gene Klumb of Bradenton, FL, 13 grandchildren and 1 great granddaughter, nieces, nephews, and many close friends. Thomas retired from the United States Navy as a Chief Warrant Officer 2, after 20 years of service to our country. During his military career he received the "Presidential Unit Citation; Navy Good Conduct Medal (3 Stars); WWII Victory Medal; Japanese Occupation; China Service (Extended); United Nations; Korea (1 Star); National Defense (1 Star) and the Armed Forces Expeditionary Medal (Vietnam). In addition, Thomas was a member of the Naval Reserve Association, VFW Post 97, Local Retired Officers Club, Fleet Service Association, Military Officers Association, and the American Society of Heating, Refrigeration and Air Conditioning Engineers. Chapel service will be held on Thursday, January 10 at 10:00am at Greenlawn Southwest Mortuary located at 2739 Panama Lane, Bakersfield, CA 93313. Burial services are to follow at 12:30pm at Bakersfield National Cemetery located at 30338 East Bear Mountain Boulevard in Arvin, CA 93203. www.bakersfield.com/obits
