Thomas Hulsey Obituary
Tom passed away peacefully at his home from the side effects of surviving lung cancer in 2008. He was born to Matt and Esta Hulsey in Lequire, Oklahoma. His family migrated to Wasco, California in 1943. He attended Wasco schools until age 16 when he went to work to help support the family. Tom worked in the fields harvesting seasonal crops from the tender age of 8 through his teenage years. At the age of 17 he went to work for Lyle Williams drilling water wells, later moving on to Maddox Production Company in San Ardo to work in the oil fields on production rigs. He moved his young family back to Wasco in 1969 and went to work for Armstrong Nurseries as a Serviceman/ Mechanic and Shop Supervisor. He returned to the oil fields in the early 1970's to work for Lunn Production Service.
In 1976 he started Wasco Waterwell Drilling with his brother JD Hulsey and brother-in-law MC Smith. He later returned to the oil fields with Advanced Production service retiring from there in 1986. In 1993 Tom and Mary moved to the comforts of Royal Palms Mobile Home Estates in Bakersfield to enjoy peace and quiet in their retirement years.
Tom was predeceased by his parents, four sisters, and five nephews. He is survived by his loving wife of 53 years Mary (Word), his three children Cyndee (Hulsey) Schmieser of Bakersfield, Karen (Terry) Evans of Bakersfield, and Jeff Hulsey of Hunington Beach, six granddaughters, one grandson, seven great-grandsons, one great-granddaughter, and another great-grandchild on the way; siblings JD Hulsey of Bakersfield, Helen (Royce) Rogers of Shafter, Mac (Sally) Hulsey of Ada, Ok., and Joyce Spanel of Wasco and numerous nieces and nephews.
A special thank you to Optimal Hospice team members Dr. Shannon Smith, Sandy, and especially Isabelo, Lauren, and Maria. Also, thank you to Dr. Htoo and Dr. Desai and staff.
A memorial reception will be held Sunday, February 1st from noon to 3:00 p.m. at 608 Clubhouse Drive.
