Thomas Boyd Obituary

Thomas Lloyd "Tommy" Boyd 1942 - 2010 Memorial services will be held today Tuesday 23rd, at Mission Family Mortuary on California Ave. at 10:00 a.m. Thomas Lloyd "Tommy" Boyd 68, born in Dallas, Texas, March 29, 1942, moved to California in 1944 where he spent the remainder of his life. On November 18, 2010, after a short bout with cancer, Tommy went to join his parents, E. L. "Pete" and Foy Boyd; his grandparents, John and Myrtle Hampton; and his 2 stepdaughters, Terri Ann Gieger and Sharon VanEck. Leaving his wife of 41 years Dottie Boyd; sister, MaryLee (Kenneth) Kuzminski Sr.; sister-in-law, Jackie (Donald) Myers; 4 grand-kids, Tonya, Tommy, Lori, all of Bakersfield, CA, and Donald VanEck of Arizona; 5 great grand-kids of Bakersfield, CA; numerous nieces, nephews and cousins to mourn his passing. Tommy was a very loving and caring husband, father, brother, son and grandfather. When he was younger and up until the cancer started Tommy enjoyed going camping, fishing, hunting, and belonged to numerous organizations. One of his favorite sayings was "let your conscience be your guide". After completing high school Tommy joined the Marine Corps in November 1960 - 1972, while he was finishing his Reserves duty he was hired as a welder at Golden Bear (Whitco) and was a superintendent there when he retired. I lost my beloved wonderful husband Tommy Boyd on his dad's birthday, he was the most caring, loving and considerate husband any girl could ask for. We had many years of love, happiness and fun together. Tommy has left me in body but he is still with in spirit. Not a second goes by that he's not in my thoughts and my heart, until I see you again. Your loving wife Dottie. www.bakersfield.com/obits

Our hearts go out to Tommy's family!!! Tommy was always working hard at the Glennville Rodeo to get things done to have the rodeo every year in June along with my father and others. We remember every weekend going to Glennville and have a work party. Us kids would always go to Tommy and Dottie's trailer and spending time wtih them. We would get all kinds of goodies and have coffee too with them sometimes. We remember spending time by the fires in Glennville, working together in Glennville, and him helping myself and my two brothers when we needed it when we were little kids. He was such a good hearted man and he will be greatly missed!! We love you Dottie and hope you are okay!!!!

As I've been sick this past week I didn't know about Tommy's passing as I check the paper everyday. I have alot of fond memories of both Tommy and Dottie. They both were the best people anyone could ask for as they helped guide many a young girl to their "Rodeo Queenship" with GMVA that they were working so hard to get, among other things with the organization. Anyone could ask Tommy to help them and if Tommy could do it, he would. I'll miss our laugh's and bs sessions around the kitchen table and most of all his dry sense of humor. I'm so sorry to hear about this Dottie and just wish I was there for you and to help you get through this. But I know you have alot of close friends and family closer to you than what I am now Dottie. Just know, that in my heart I love you both and my prayers are with you. RIP Tommy, your work is done for the day........
