Velma Van Fossen Obituary
Velma was born July 31, 1920, to Guy and Bobbi Masterson in Ventura, CA. After graduating from Ventura High School in 1938, she married Leo Van Fossen and moved to Bakersfield, where she spent the rest of her years, most of them in Oildale. Along with Leo, they owned and operated Leo's Highland Cafe on North Chester Ave. for many years. Velma and Leo were well known for the Friday Night Spaghetti Dinners and her famous pickled tongue. Velma and Leo had many great times, great trips, great friends, and great memories through their marriage.
Later in life, Velma and companion Joe Raymond enjoyed traveling, trips to the beach and to the Poso Park cabin.
Velma was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Leo; brother, Dick Masterson; sister-in-law, Bev Masterson; and her companion, Joe Raymond.
She is survived by her brother, Wes; son and daughter-in-law, Eddie and Tracy; 4 grandchildren, Mark (Heidi), Darren (Tiffany), Jeff (Barbara), Tobey (Mike); and 11 great-grandchildren. Most of all, she will be missed by all her family, who loved her very much.
Thank you so much for the loving care Velma received from the staff at Parkview Julian Convalescent and Hoffmann Hospice.
