Vera J. Sanchez Obituary
On Friday January 17th at 4:00pm while holding hands with and surrounded by her family, Vera exhaled her last breath on earth to inhale her first one in heaven. Vera was born on December 26, 1932 in DiGiorgio, CA, a small annex just outside of Bakersfield. A late Christmas present to her parents Ignacio & Rose Herrera. But be warned, never wrap her birthday present in Christmas themed wrapping paper. Vera possessed a warm smile and intriguing smirk that instantly won the hearts of anyone she met. One in particular was John "Bunky" Sanchez, to whom she married on September 29, 1951. Her one and only true love till the end. The two raised 5 children, numerous grandchildren and many pets over the years in a small 3 bedroom 1 bath house on Bingham St. in East Bakersfield. Not just a house but a home filled with love, laughter and plenty of great homemade food. The doors were always unlocked for whomever wanted to visit. Any chance they had, Vera & Bunky would load up the station wagon with camping gear, the kids & anyone who wanted to tag along to go on road trips, camping, theme parks, visit out of town family, and to find a perfect place to go fishing. Favorite spots would consist of Morro Bay, Independence Creek, the Kern River & anywhere they could drown a worm or a salmon egg in hopes of catching a big one. Always something to do, always somewhere to be! Kept busy by their children's & grandchildren's many sporting events and activities, trying not miss a single one. Vera also loved being in her garden, sewing, bird watching, going to the casino & collecting rocks from all her ventures which she would keep safe in her pants or sweater pocket until she could place them in her garden at home.
Vera is once again reunited with her loving husband Bunky, parents Ignacio & Rose Herrera, brothers Gilbert & Johnny Aragon & many more loved ones in the afterlife. She is survived by her children Denny & Leonard Pena, Patty & Fernando Rodarte, Mark & Diane Sanchez, Terri Sanchez and Larry & Pennie Sanchez. 10 grandchildren, 17 great grandchildren, 2 great great grandchildren with 1 on the way. Her brothers and sisters Ernie & Betty Herrera, Louis & Fred Garcia, Mike & Janice Aragon, Manuel & Kathy Aragon, Marianne Aragon, Belen & Phillip Gonzalez, a plethora of family and friends and her best 4 legged back yard companion Brown. Mom/Grandma you will be forever loved & missed every second of every minute of every day. Thank you for the never ending love that you unselfishly gave to us. On behalf of the brothers and sisters, a special thank you to Patti & Fern for their love, sacrifice and dedication to Mom's care and wellbeing for these past few years
