Graveside services for Victor Jay Gifford "Vic" will be held at Hillcrest Memorial Park on Saturday, March 15, 2014 at 10:00 a.m.
Vic was born March 6, 1946 in Taft, CA and he passed away March 6, 2014 in Bakersfield, CA. Vic went to school in Taft through the tenth grade; then he moved to Bakersfield with his family and graduated from North High School in 1964. He also attended Bakersfield College until he went to work for Safeway Grocery Store, then Shell Oil Co., and later bought his own gas station. In late 1970 he started another business, Technical Wireline Service. Vic was an avid sportsman who loved to fish, hunt and ride his Harley. In 2002, due to an error during a biopsy, he bled to death. Although he was brought back to life, he needed 24 hour care. His goal in life was to remain here until he finished raising his grandson, Brandon with the help of Susan Smith, care giver and family friend, he reached his goal.
Vic is preceded in death by his parents, Betty and Ray Gifford. He is survived by his grandson, Brandon Gifford, who was always on call to help care for Papa Vic; son and daughter-in-law, Steve and Becky Gifford; sister and brother-in-law, Judy and Tom Blacklock; granddaughter, Shianne Gifford; and nephews, Brian and Duane Blacklock. Vic also had wonderful friends who helped him through the hard times; they were, Phillip Keeler, Richard Jackson, Roger and Darlene Smith and care giver Teresa Redela.
