Virgie Corene Sweet Obituary
Virgie Corene Sweet of Bakersfield passed away peacefully on the morning of October 30th with her husband Larry and son Dan at her side. Virgie was born in Bakersfield in 1936 and grew up in Taft, California. She graduated from Taft high School in 1954. She married Larry Sweet in 1958 and shared 56 years of marriage together. Virgie led a full and wonderful life. She was an amazing wife and mother. She loved her family dearly and enjoyed spending time with them. She loved dressing up and always had her hair and nails done, a very "put together" lady. Antique shopping and sipping hot tea from one of her many antique tea cups were two more favorites of hers. Traveling and camping were a big part of hers and Larry's life. They visited 30 of the 50 United States. She participated in a friends and family Bunco group for 30 plus years. She was also a member of the Sigma Alpha Sorority (Eta Kappa Chapter) for 25 years.
Virgie was preceded in death by her parents Winfield and Oveta Johns, her in-laws Ernest and Loretta Sweet, her daughter Cynthia Kendrick, son-in-law Gerold Kendrick, Brother Winston Johns and Sister Neoma Boyce.
She is survived by her husband Larry Sweet, children Lynn Sweet, Dan Sweet and Joy French (Mark), 9 grandchildren and 15 great-grandchildren, also sister-in-law Lora Wartfield (Lynn).
