Virginia Nell Allen Bridges Obituary
Virginia Bridges, longtime resident of McFarland, passed away peacefully on January 21, 2015. She was 85 years old. Virginia was born on August 14, 1929, in Harmony, Arkansas. She was born to Richard and Ethel Allen. She was the youngest of 13 children.  Virginia shared many stories of the hard life she had growing up in Arkansas.
After finishing high school, Virginia was set up on a blind date. Two months later on Aug. 26, 1947, she married Quentin Bridges. Together, they farmed land in Arkansas and Missouri. In 1958, Virginia and Quentin moved to California and eventually settled in McFarland.
Quentin worked in the cotton gin. Virginia also worked at the gin part time and sewed for others to help with the family's expenses. Virginia was an excellent seamstress, creating outfits for so many in the community, including the McFarland High School Varsity Cheer Squad. She was a member of the Church of Christ in McFarland and at Westside Church of Christ in Bakersfield.
Virginia was preceded in death by her husband. She is survived by her sons, David (and Betty) of Tehachapi and Denny (and Julie) of Bakersfield.  Virginia's grandchildren were the light of her life: Autumn, Kyle (wife Kim), Claire, and Alex. She was great- grandmother to little Devin.
The family would like to express their thanks to Susan and her staff at Divine Care for their loving care and kindness. We also extend our thanks to Gentiva Hospice for their kind and compassionate care.
A graveside service will be held on Thursday, January 29, 2015, at Greenlawn Southwest Memorial Park, 2739 Panama Lane, Bakersfield, California, at 10:00 a.m. Officiating over services will be Garth Black.
