WALLACE EDWIN DALE SLANKARD Obituary
Wallace Edwin Dale Slankard of Tehachapi passed away on July 27, 2016 in Bakersfield, CA.
Wally was born September 29, 1931 in Phoenix, Arizona to George Ernest and Bertha Alice (McKnight) Slankard. A 1949 graduate of Delano High School, he served in the United States Air Force from 1951 to 1953. He was a member of Operating Engineers since December 1954. Wally retired as a Superintendent from CA Rasmussen, Inc. after a distinguished 25+ year career.
After retirement, he spent many hours traveling in his motor home and riding his three-wheel Harley Davidson motorcycle. He was a member of the Lancaster Elks Club and the local Tehachapi Harley Rider's group. He also loved to spend time with his family.
Wally was preceded in death by his parents, brothers Lee and Jack Slankard, sisters Dortha Harold and June Slankard, former wife Barbara Slankard. Marian Slankard, children (with Barbara) Michael David, Janis Lynn and Debra Ann Slankard, and granddaughter Samantha Davis.
He is survived by his wife LaVeta Massey Slankard, sister Doris Slankard of Austin, Texas, daughters Kathy (Bill) Davis of Tehachapi and Cindy Slankard of Folsom, grandson Tony Leonardini, great-granddaughter Raven Leonardini, several nieces and a nephew, as well as other family and numerous friends.
Services will be held at Bakersfield National Cemetery in Arvin, on Friday, September 23rd at 12:00 pm. Greenlawn Mortuary & Cemetery of Bakersfield is in charge of arrangements.
